Naast het kweken van Europese cultuurvogels, ben ik ook een enthousiast fotograaf. In het bijzonder fotograferen in de natuur. Ik heb onlangs een Canon 350D gekocht. Dit is een digitale spiegelreflex camera. Voor vogelfotografie gebruik ik een Canon zoom lens 75 x 300. Omdat de sensor ook nog een factor 1.6 aan de vergroting toevoegt heb ik een zoom van 480. Uit de hand fotograferen wordt dan al moeilijk. Op mijn website heb ik een aantal foto's geplaatst waarvan ik zelf vind dat ze redelijk geslaagd zijn. De vele honderden foto's die niet door de selectie heen zijn gekomen, krijgt u helaas niet te zien.

Fotograferen in het regenwoud is niet eenvoudig door het dichte bladerdak is het bijna niet mogelijk om ingezoomd uit de hand te fotograferen omdat lang sluitertijden nodig zijn. Hierdoor worden de foto's onscherp. De foto's op deze pagina zijn dan ook aan de rand van het Lamington National Park genomen. De foto's die in het regenwoud zijn gemaakt zijn van onvoldoende kwaliteit om hier te tonen. Dit waren ondere andere de Riffle bird, Whip bird, Golden wistler, Schrub wren, Cuckoo shrike, Logrunner en Tree creeper. Ze staan nog wel met de juiste scherpte op mijn netvlies.
Photography in the rain forest is not an easy job, because of the density of the canope and the lack of light is it hardly possible to take pictures without a tripod. The result of the lack of light is an increased shutter time and pictures got unsharp. Most pictures below are taken at the border of the rainforest of Lamington National park. Pictures taken under dark conditions are not quite suitable to publish on my website. These were amongst others; the riffle bird, the whipbird, golden whistler, schrubwren, cuckoo shrike, logrunner and tree creeper. They however are still quite sharp captured in my memory.

Mont Annan ligt niet ver van Sydney bestaat nog niet zo lang (sinds 1986). Het is een botanische tuin. Dat betekent dat het terrein relief en alle vegetatie is aangebracht. Het is echter gebaseerd op hoe het landschap er vroeger uitzag, dus geen mooie aangelegde paden, maar een natuurlijke ruige vormgeving. Gedurende de laatste vijftien jaar zijn er vogeltellingen geweest. Er zijn in totaal 76 verschillende soorten aangetroffen. De roodkop roodborst, waarvan men dacht dat hij uitgestorven was in de omgeving, werd ook weer regelmatig gezien. Ik was voor mijn werk in Sydney en kon een zondagochtend in Mont Annan doorbrenegen. De gids, die me rondleidde was Dannis, een senior, die alles van de planetn, bomen en vogels in het gebied kon vertellen.
Mont Annan (near Sydney) is quite new botanical garden founded in 1986. Over the past fifteen years, the bird population has been monitored. 76 different species were observed, including the red capped robin, which was thought extinct from the area. I was able to spend the morning in the gardens. The guide was Dannis, who knew everything about the birds, trees and plants in the area.
